Instructional Level:

The instructional level of this program is Advanced according to the definition of APTA.  This level assumes thorough familiarity with the topic and focuses on advanced techniques, recent advances, and future directions.

Educational Credit

This program was approved for 33.00 contact hours, 3.3 CEUs by the California Physical Therapy Association (CPTA# 17-223).

 Certification:

Certification level II will be received upon successful completion  of the course.

Completion of this course and the basic or initial course will enable the attendees to take the International Certification in Lymphedema Management Examination: ICLM Examination

Once they pass the examination and submit a case study, attendees will be ICLM certified.

Course Objectives:

At the end of the course, participants will demonstrate the:

  1. Understanding of the anatomical and physiological concepts underlying lymphedema management.
  2. Understanding of the psychological issues raised by cancer & lymphedema.
  3. Ability to perform manual lymph drainage and multi-component bandaging addressing lymphedema of the limbs, head and neck and trunk as described by the Leduc school.
  4. Understanding of the use of compression devices (Indications & contraindications).
  5. Understanding of patients education (self-care, compression garments management, precautions, H.E.P.)
  6. Ability to evaluate patients suffering from lymphedema , edema, lipidema and to design a comprehensive plan of care
  7. Ability to treat various pathologies showing symptoms of lymphedema or edema, using the techniques of  lymphedema management.
  8. Ability to answer most of the questions raised by the patients.
  9. Ability to recognize when the intervention of the physician is necessary. (for instance if there is suspicion of DVT)
  10. Understanding of the most recent research performed in the field of treatment of lymphedema.
