The instructional level of this program is
intermediate according to APTA definition.
Applicants acquire general familiarity with the topic
by reading the course material received upon
confirmation of registration.
This program has been approved for 16 hours, 1.6 CEUs by the California Physical Therapy Association (CPTA # 19-293).
Completion of this course and the Advanced course will enable the ttendees to take the International Certification in Lymphedema Management Exam and to become ICLM certified.
At the end of the course, participants will
demonstrate the:
1) Understanding of the anatomical and physiological concepts underlying
lymphedema management.
2) Understanding of the psychological issues raised by cancer & lymphedema.
3) Ability to perform manual lymph drainage (mld) and multi-component bandaging Leduc method.
4) Understanding of the use of compression devices.
5) Understanding of patient education (precautions, skin care, compression
garment management, home program).
6) Ability to evaluate patients suffering from lymphedema and venous edema and to design and document comprehensive plans of care.
7) Ability to differentiate Chronic Venous Insufficiency and Postphlebitic Syndrome from Lymphedema and Lipedema.
8)Ability to treat patients suffering from lymphedema, venous edema & lipedema.
9)Ability to answer most of the questions raised by patients.
10)Ability to recognize when the intervention of
the physician is necessary.

8:00-10:30am: Presentation. Orientation. Anatomy
and physiology of the lymphatic system.
Test 1: Anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic
system.
Theoretical approach to manual lymph drainage
(mld), multi-component bandaging and compression
device treatment. Research.
10:45-12:00noon – 1:00-3:00pm: Lab: manual
lymph drainage of the lower extremity (L.E.).
3:15-5:00pm: Lab: manual lymph drainage of the
upper extremity (U.E.)
5:00-5:300pm: Review of protocol of manual lymph
drainage and multi-component bandaging.
5:30 – 6:00pm : Q&A

3:15 – 5:00pm: Upper extremity multi-component
bandaging
5:00-6:00pm: Compression garments. Q & A.
